The Community Sports Leaders Award

Central Council of Physical Recreation

The Community Sports Leaders Award has, as its title suggests, sports leadership as its underlying theme.  The course is open to all students.  You do not necessarily have to be good at sport, or to be highly academic, in order to take part.  The most important quality is the enthusiasm to have a go.  The NVQ qualification also requires you to prove your ability within the working environment.  The course is taken alongside other courses, such as 'A' levels or GNVQs.

The Community Sports Leaders Syllabus is divided into eight units of work.   Candidates must complete all eight units.

Units:

1.  Organisational skills 5.  Leagues and Competitions
2.  Safety in Sport 6.  Improvisation of Activities
3.  Know your Friends 7.  Games and Activity Experience
4.  Fitness in Sport 8.  Ten Hours Voluntary Leadership Experience

Emphasis is placed throughout the course on practical experience and you will have the opportunity to practise leadership skills with local high schools and in the PE Department at King Edward VII School.

You will be expected to involve yourself fully in a personal leisure programme and participate where possible in the school extra-curricular programme.  Success is achieved through continuous assessment of practical, written and oral work, so you will need to keep up a high level of enthusiasm and commitment!

If you are considering a career in Physical Education as a teacher; in the Services; the Police Force; emergency services or recreational management, you will find this one-year course of great value.
