Health Risks in Africa
Text Box: Illness & Disease
There are numerous illness and diseases throughout Africa and many of them have similar symptoms. With most of the more serious diseases, vaccinations have been developed as a form of protection. Some vaccinations can have different side effects on different people, but if you are travelling to Africa you should always obtain specialist advice from your physician or travel clinic. Many countries have clinics that specialise in tropical diseases. Such diseases/infections include: Aids, Bilharzia, Cholera, Diarrhoea and sickness, Amoebic Dysentery, Hepatitis A/B, Lassa Fever, Malaria, Polio, Rabies, Typhoid, TB etc etc.
Text Box: I would say that the media and other parts of the world generate an image of Africa as being a country who cannot efficiently cope with illness and disease and do not have the equipment and resources to handle a crisis. There are many tropical, poisonous animals with in Africa which does not help matters. Obviously this is not true in certain parts of Africa maybe even the majority but through out the world this the image that has been created.
