Year 7 Maths OverviewModule 1: Getting to know you.Approximately 2 weeks will be spent on each of: Statistics;
Arithmetic and Decimals; 2D Shape. Pupils will be doing surveys and presenting data; they
will be practising basic number skills and extending that knowledge to include decimals;
they will be learning the names and properties of common 2 dimensional shapes. Try the module 1 wordsearches - there are 10 words to find on each. Part A Part B Module 2: Special Numbers and FunctionsApproximately 2 weeks will be spent on each of: Number
Patterns; Algebra 1; Fractions and Percentages. Pupils will be learning about different
types of numbers such as Prime Numbers, Factors and Squares; they will be using Function
Machines to find missing inputs and outputs; they will start to consider the use of
letters in place of numbers; they will collect like terms and substitute numbers into
formulae; they will also be working with fractions and percentages, studying them
separately and examining the link between the two. Try the module 2 wordsearches - there are 10 words to find on each. Part A Part B Module 3: Shapes and MeasuresApproximately 2 weeks will be spent on each of: Units of
Measure; 3D Shapes; Angles and Constructions. Pupils will be learning about units of
measurement (in particular length and time) both in Metric and Imperial units; they will
be identifying, drawing and creating solids; they will learn how to use angle measurers;
they will calculate missing angles from lines, turns and triangles. Try the module 3 wordsearches - there are 10 words to find on each. Part A Part B Module 4: Taking things furtherApproximately 2 weeks will be spent on each of: Probability;
Area and Volume; Algebra 2. Pupils will use probability scales and fractions to describe
the chances of certain events occurring; Pupils will calculate the areas of irregular
shapes by counting squares, they will also calculate the areas of squares, rectangles,
triangles and compound shapes; they will consider the volume of simple prisms such as
cubes and cuboids; Algebra will be re-visited as pupils solve equations using a variety of
methods including Trial and Improvement. Try the module 4 wordsearches - there are 10 words to find on each. Part A Part B Module 5: Maths in the Real WorldApproximately 2 weeks will be spent on each of: Directed
Numbers and Co-ordinates; Statistics 2; Symmetry. Pupils will extend the number line to
include negative numbers (in contexts such as temperature) and consider co-ordinates in
all 4 quadrants; Statistics will be re-visited but this time pupils will be examining
averages and the range; Finally pupils will be looking at finding lines of symmetry,
describing rotational symmetry and creating symmetrical pictures. Try the module 5 wordsearches - there are 10 words to find on each. Part A Part B
