EDWARDS IIV & LONG FIELD HIGH SCHOOL KIDS RECEIVE SPECIAL
INVITATION TO WIMBLEDON
A group of young tennis players from Kind Edwards IIV and
Long Field High Schools, were given the opportunity to
attend Wimbledon today (June 30) through an invitation from
the LTA’s British Schools Tennis Association (BSTA).
Over 6,700 players from 638 schools will be attending the
Championships and be given the opportunity to visit the
LTA’s Play Tennis Zone – an area that people can come and
play tennis with session run by LTA qualified coaches. As
well as this the players will be able to witness the top
players in action on one of the show courts.
Richard Bailey, teacher at Long Field High School commented:
“The opportunity for these young players to visit the
Championships and experience the fantastic atmosphere here
is really inspirational. I am sure today’s visit will be a
great motivator when these players get back on court over
the next week.”
The objective of the BSTA is to promote, support and
encourage the teaching and playing of tennis in places of
full-time education. The association works in close liaison
with the LTA to develop and deliver tennis in schools.
BSTA’s focus in schools is to provide teachers, coaches and
others working within schools and school sport partnerships
with the right training, resources and support to make sure
pupils receive a sound, fun introduction to tennis, and to
provide links between schools, local authorities and clubs
to encourage pupils to play outside school on a regular
basis in a club.
Membership of the BSTA is open to any school - primary,
secondary, state and independent. There are currently 3,600
member schools.
