The Ocean Institute Vc

On the 16th of March 2005 the Vc club had a chance to Vc with the Ocean Institute in California. This Vc was about the topic Earthquakes and  Tsunamis. We met up with a man called Jonathan at the ocean institute who told us all about this topic using a variety of Ict and Video footage.

The first topic we talked about was the way the earth is split into several different Plates, which don't necessarily line up with the continents, many of them join under the sea. This is widely why we get a lot of Earth Quakes under the sea and this is what caused the Devastating Tsunami in December 2004.

At the places where these plates meet there are usually a lot of deep cracks in the earth from which, Molten Lava from the earths core can spew up. One of the most famous of these gorges is the Marianas trench in the mid Pacific Ocean.

The next we talked about was Tsunamis. This was linked in with earth quakes as Tsunamis are caused by giant underwater earth quakes. Tsunamis are very powerful and have enough power to travel all around the world. Like the picture below shows

All in all this Vc was very interesting. We really enjoyed it, and finding out about what caused the Tsunami was very exiting.

All in all this was a fantastic experience, thanks to Jonathan for providing it for us.
